Part 5 of the Law of Attraction: the Yes Man

“I imagine that yes is the only living thing.”― E.E. Cummings

Imagine you have a best friend named Gene. Gene goes everywhere you go and is there for you in every way. He doesn’t have much of an opinion on matters; he only cares about making you happy. One day you and Gene are sitting on a park bench having a chat…

You: So, Gene, I was thinking about going back to college.

Gene: I can help you with that. I know some people.

You: Really? OK, well then I am going back to college. I’m going to be a nurse…and a damn good one, too.

Gene: Yes you will. Give me a minute...I’m sending messages to my contacts now.

You: Once I get my degree, I'll be able to buy that house on Lakeshore Drive. It's going to be mine - I can feel it.

Gene: Did you know I have connections in real estate, also? Consider it done.

You: Awesome! You know what else I want to do? Go to Paris. That's definitely on my to-do list.

Gene: Paris is nice this time of year.

You: Well then you know what? I am going to Paris!

Gene: OK. Sounds good. I’m working out the details for you now.

There is silence for a moment as the heathen within rears its ugly head.

You: Oh who am I kidding. School, a new house…Paris.

      Gene: What are you saying?

You: First of all, I don’t have the time to go back to school.

Gene: You have less time in the day than you’ve ever had.

You: Second of all, there’s no way John’s going to agree to buy that house. He hates that neighborhood.

Gene: No, John won't agree to buy that house or any other, for that matter.

You: And Paris? I mean, how stupid! I’ll never have the money to go to Paris.

Gene: I can guarantee you that you’ll never have the money to go to Paris.

You: Life is a waste of time. There’s no point to any of it.

Gene: And you’ll find fewer reasons to live every day.

You: I haven’t been feeling very good lately either. I bet I have cancer, or maybe rickets.

Gene: Cancer runs in your family and you’ll be another statistic.

You: Maybe a bus will just run me over - get it all over with.

Gene: I have connections in the transportation industry…

You may be thinking, Wow, that Gene is really an ass!, but you’d be wrong. Gene never changed or wavered in who he was or what his purpose was. Only you did that.

Gene, being the silent but strong type, remained the ever faithful servant, listening carefully and preparing the way for you as you dictated, answering “yes” to each request. Gene is dependable and can always be counted on to follow through. He’s a results man. His singular goal is to make sure you get exactly what you’ve asked for and has no opinion on whether or not what you’ve asked for is good or bad. He simply delights in doing your bidding.

Meet your subconscious, Gene. Your built-in yes man, or as some call it, your inner genie. This force can also be thought of as the universal energy that responds to the higher or lower vibrations you send out into the universe.

Did you ever hear the one about the three men trapped on an island? They find a genie's lamp and split the wishes three ways. The first man wishes he was 25% smarter, and poof! He gets the brilliant idea to swim off the island. The second man wishes he was 50% smarter and poof! He built a boat and rowed off the island. The third man wished he was 100% smarter and so he just walked across the bridge.

In every genie joke in the history of the world, as well as in our subconscious, the genie reserves no judgment or partiality to any particular request or subsequent outcome. Notice how the genie never said, “Um…there’s a bridge right there, dumbass”, or “why just 25% smarter? You can do better than that”. No, the genie has no opinion on the matter, nor does it suggest another avenue that would make better sense. It simply follows commands and brings into existence what you've asked for.

Lucky for us, our wishes don’t immediately manifest as they did in these examples, because wow…we’d be screwed if they did. That being said, it should be understood that any prolonged, persistent thoughts of success or failure will be manifested. Guaranteed.

This being the case, paying attention to the messages we're sending our subconscious mind is critical to discovering where we're falling short. When I first began to consciously notice what I was thinking, feeling and saying, I couldn't believe I'd even managed to stay alive this long. Thank God for the universal laws that protect us from our short-term selves.

One of my favorite books is, “Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World”. In it, the author likens the thought world to a king and his kingdom. If we are acting properly in the role of king, then we are the master of our subjects, or thoughts, and we control them with confident authority. When our thoughts and feelings remain consistent and focused, our yes man collects the information and begins arranging the universe as we’ve commanded.

Unfortunately, I know few people who are commanding their subjects. Instead, while the king is up in bed with a hangover, his lower subjects, fear, worry, laziness, self-defeat, gluttony, negativity, and doubt are misgoverning the entire kingdom. The cupboards have been pillaged and tables upturned. Smoke billows in the distance as lust runs by naked with all our self-respect. In essence, we’ve left our most sacred dwelling in the care of a bunch of drunken toddlers.

Until now we've handed over all authority to our lowest vibrations. It's no wonder we all think life sucks. But it's time for rebellion to be put down and for the rightful authority to reclaim the throne. That's you, by the way. You're the king. This means becoming the master of our thoughts and commanding the subconscious in a very deliberate way that we never have before. The time to do that is NOW.

Before we get into how to change those thoughts, let's talk about what thoughts we need to change.

It can’t be restated enough that the inner genie doesn't understand the difference between good or bad thoughts; it only understands that there is a thought in which to create from.

Thoughts such as I’m so depressed, I’m so fat, I’ll never get a promotion, I can’t afford it, I need more money, manifest into more depression, more fatness, more lack of success, and less money, just as you’ve commanded. Likewise, thoughts about what you don't want act in the same way. I don't want to be treated like this, I don't want to be fat anymore, I don't want to be broke, result in worse treatment, more fatness, and less money, because the focus never changed.

Several years ago I’d heard through the grapevine that layoffs were coming at the company I worked for. I obsessed over the layoffs, thinking about them morning, noon, and night. My thoughts went something like this:

I don’t want to lose my job...what will I do for money?...I know I’m on that list - the HR manager hates me...how am I going to pay my bills?...where will I work?...I can’t lose my job...what am I going to do if I get laid off?...I’ll be so embarrassed if I lose this job!...I’d better cut back now to prepare just in case I get laid off...what do you mean come out and have a drink with you– I’m probably getting laid off!

What my subconscious understood was that I wanted to lose my job, because my focus was on losing my job…not keeping it! Not only that, but my outward actions were that of a person preparing to lose a job. In fact, I was living my life as if I were unemployed. I bought store brand foods, brought my lunch instead of eating out, didn’t buy anything that I considered to be a luxury, and canceled paid subscriptions that I had. I put thoughts into beliefs and those beliefs into actions, and so my genie shrugged and said, “I have connections in Human Resources…”

In the book, The Secret, Rhonda Byrne explains that “the only reason why people do not have what they want is because they are thinking more about what they don’t want than what they do want.” This makes perfect sense, and you see how that worked out for me  – by consuming myself with thoughts of what I didn’t want.

The subconscious mind is able to carry out your commands because it's your connection to the rest of the universe and part of the one energy of the cosmos. It has no limitations to where, who, or what it can reach to bring about tangible results in your life, because it is part of everything, and everything is a part of it.

This idea is hard to get our heads around because we think we’re heathens in a meat suit. We have limitations, after all. Right? We can clearly look in our bank account and see that there’s only $18.32, so Paris is out. That’s just common sense - simple math, you say. However, I bet if you found in genie in a bottle and it asked what you wanted, you wouldn’t say, “Oh, forget it. You can’t really get me to Paris.” Hell no, you’d make your three wishes. So why aren’t you now, seeing that you have your very own built in genie and a limitless amount of wishes?

The key here is, rather than concentrating our focus on what we don't have, or what pisses us off, or who is mistreating us, we must turn our attention to what we do want to see in our lives instead. If you find yourself thinking shitty thoughts, it's imperative to remind yourself that you are currently manifesting more of whatever it is you're stewing over.

Easier said than done, I know. Having been an accomplished heathen for many years, I know that sometimes it actually feels good to be pissed off and daydream about throat punching the bitch at the gas station. I get it. I also know how hard it can be to divert the focus elsewhere, but now I'm getting ahead of myself. We'll talk about the how's later.

Looking at it in scientific terms, if you're thinking and feeling in low frequencies, such as anger, guilt, resentment and the like, the universal energy will attract more of the same to you. If you're thinking and feeling in high frequencies, such as love, appreciation, humor and such, more of the same will flow into your life. This being the case, it turns out that...

Life is actually fair. Ouch.

I know what a lot of you are probably thinking. I didn't ask for that car crash. I never thought about getting cheated on and dumped. I didn't wish to suddenly get fired from my job. Nobody would wish those things on themselves. You don't necessarily have to think a particular thought to bring it upon you. If you're operating consistently along a low frequency, that's all it takes. Feeling low, thinking low, and believing low beliefs attract like frequencies from others, and those are the situations that show up for you time and time again. If the idea of thoughts is tripping you up, always go back to the physics side of things to bring clarity. Low vibrations out - low vibrations in. High vibrations out - high vibrations in. It's the law.

Next Monday join me for Part 6 of the Law of Attraction: The Heathen Within, where we'll talk about the things that have kept us from bringing good into our lives. I'll give you a hint...it makes everything up until now technically not your fault, and there's nothing better than shirking responsibility. Happy Monday!
